(n.) [Malay: kalumpi] The name of a palm species, Eleiodoxa conferta (Griff.) Burret., in the family Palmae. It grows in clumps in peat swamp forests and moist areas in southern Thailand. The fruit forms large, dense clusters with a flat end, smooth yellow shiny skin, no spines. The seed covering is white, with a sour and astringent taste, edible. The sap inside the trunk is sticky and can be used as glue for paper. Also called 'ลุมพี', and in Southern Thailand, 'หลุมพี'.
