ชื่อปลวกหลายชนิด หลายสกุล และหลายวงศ์ ในอันดับ Isoptera ลำตัวสีดำหรือนํ้าตาลแก่ อาศัยอยู่ใต้ดิน เมื่อมีนํ้านองเกิดตะไคร่ขึ้น พอนํ้าลดจะเดินเป็นขบวนเพื่อมากินตะไคร่และคาบไปเลี้ยงตัวอ่อน จึงเห็นตัวเฉพาะในเวลานํ้านอง เช่น ชนิด Hospitalitermes medioflavusHolmgren, H. asahinaiMorimoto, H. birmanicus Snyder ในวงศ์ Termitidae.

Name for several termite species of multiple genera and families in order Isoptera; body black or dark brown; subterranean; visible above ground only during floods - when floodwater causes algae to grow on the surface, the termites march out in columns to feed on the algae and carry it back to feed their larvae; e.g. Hospitalitermes medioflavus Holmgren, H. asahinai Morimoto, H. birmanicus Snyder (family Termitidae).
