True bug; any insect of the order Hemiptera. Adults have two pairs of wings; the forewings are rather long and narrow, with the anterior half hardened (hemelytron) and the posterior half membranous; the hindwings are entirely membranous; when folded, the wings lie flat along the dorsal surface of the body. Mouthparts are of the piercing–sucking type. Many species emit a pungent odour and are crop pests.
