A substance that gives red color to red blood cells, composed of a protein called globin and heme, which is a compound containing iron, nitrogen, carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen. Its function is to transport oxygen, which the body inhales through the lungs, to various parts of the body. Oxygen binds to hemoglobin in the form of oxyhemoglobin and can easily separate from hemoglobin when it reaches other parts of the body that require it.
