กฎเกณฑ์ที่ผู้มีอำนาจตราขึ้นเพื่อใช้บังคับบุคคลให้ปฏิบัติตามเป็นการทั่วไป ผู้ใดไม่ปฏิบัติตามย่อมได้รับผลร้าย กฎหมายอาจตราขึ้นเพื่อกำหนดระเบียบแห่งความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างบุคคลหรือระหว่างบุคคลกับรัฐ หรือเพื่อใช้ในการบริหารประเทศ กฎหมายอาจเกิดจากจารีตประเพณีอันเป็นที่ยอมรับนับถือกันก็ได้.

A set of rules established by an authority to be generally binding on individuals, with adverse consequences for non-compliance. Laws may be enacted to regulate relationships between individuals or between individuals and the state, or for the administration of the country. Laws may also arise from customs that are widely accepted.

To issue a decree; e.g., to have the Ministry of Interior and Defense issue a decree to the judiciary. If the decree is not comprehensive, the issuer will be punished (old royal decree); also, a decree regarding royal funeral arrangements in the Ayutthaya period.

ตราสั่ง เช่น จึ่งกฎหมายให้สามไป เดือนหนึ่งจอมไตร ดำรัสให้เร่งคืนมา (พากย์)

A royal order or command; e.g., thus ordered to go for three months, the monarch commanded to hasten the return (poetic usage).

กำหนดขีดขั้น เช่น ให้ปลูกโรงรจนาใน นอกหน้าศาลชัย ให้ตั้งพิกัดกฎหมาย (พากย์).

To set a limit or boundary; e.g., to build a rice mill outside the court and to set the legal boundary (poetic usage).
