กฺว่าง

ชื่อแมลงพวกด้วงหลายชนิดหลายสกุล ในวงศ์ Scarabaeidae ตัวผู้มีเขาที่หลังอก ตัวเมียไม่มีเขา เช่น ชนิด Xylotrupes gideon Linn. ตัวผู้ที่มีขนาดใหญ่เรียกว่า กว่างโซ้งหรือกว่างชน มีเขาที่หลังอกยื่นยาวเป็นจะงอยเรียวไปทางด้านหน้าและโค้งลง ตรงปลายเป็น ๒ แฉก กับที่หัวมีเขาเล็กยื่นออกไปเป็นเขาเดี่ยว โค้งขึ้นคล้ายนอแรด แต่ปลายแยกเป็น ๒ แฉก ตัวผู้ที่มีขนาดย่อมมีเขาสั้นเรียก กว่างกิหรือกว่างแซม ตัวเมียไม่มีเขาเรียก กว่างแม่หรือกว่างอีลุ่ม.

(Noun) Name for various species and genera of beetles in the family Scarabaeidae. Males have a horn on the thorax, females do not. For example, Xylotrupes gideon Linn. Large males are called 'kwang song' or 'kwang chon', with a long, pointed, forward-curving thoracic horn split at the tip, and a smaller single horn on the head, curved upward like a rhinoceros horn but split at the tip. Smaller males have short horns, called 'kwang ki' or 'kwang saem'. Females without horns are called 'kwang mae' or 'kwang i-lum'.
