ชื่อสัตว์เลี้ยงลูกด้วยนมชนิด Bubalus bubalis Linn. ในวงศ์ Bovidae เป็นสัตว์เคี้ยวเอื้องขนาดใหญ่กีบคู่ ลำตัวสีดำหรือเทา เขาโค้งยาว ไม่ผลัดเขา ที่ใต้คางและหน้าอกมีขนขาวเป็นรูปง่าม ครึ่งล่างของขาทั้งสี่มีขนสีขาวหรือขาวอมเทา

A mammal species, Bubalus bubalis Linn., in the family Bovidae; a large ruminant with cloven hooves, black or gray body, long curved horns that are not shed, white hair in a forked shape under the chin and chest, and the lower half of all four legs has white or whitish-gray hair.
