ชื่อปลานํ้าจืดชนิด Cirrhinus microlepis Sauvage ในวงศ์ Cyprinidae ลำตัวยาวเรียว แบนข้างเล็กน้อย ตาเล็ก ปากเล็กอยู่ตํ่าที่ปลายหัว ไม่มีหนวด เกล็ดเล็ก เฉพาะในแนวเส้นข้างตัวมีประมาณ ๖๐ เกล็ด ลำตัวด้านหลังสีนํ้าตาลเทา ข้างท้องสีขาว ปลายครีบหลังและครีบท้องสีชมพู อาศัยตามลำนํ้าในเขตที่ลุ่มภาคกลางไปจนถึงแม่นํ้าโขง ขนาดยาวได้ถึง ๖๕ เซนติเมตร, นวลจันทร์น้ำจืด ก็เรียก, อีสานเรียก โพง, เขมรเรียก พรวน.

Name of a freshwater fish species, Cirrhinus microlepis Sauvage, in the family Cyprinidae. The body is long and slender, slightly laterally compressed, with small eyes and a small mouth located low at the tip of the head, without barbels. The scales are small, with about 60 scales along the lateral line. The back is grayish-brown, the belly is white, and the tips of the dorsal and pelvic fins are pink. It inhabits rivers in the lowland central region up to the Mekong River. It can reach up to 65 centimeters in length. Also called 'nualchan freshwater', called 'phong' in Isan, and 'phruan' in Khmer.

The dorsal fin is single and located along the midline of the body; the caudal fin is deeply forked. The scales over the body are silvery. It can reach up to 1.8 meters in length. It can also live in freshwater. Also called 'chalyn', 'dokmai', or 'nualchan sea'.
