ความเพียร มี ๔ อย่าง คือ ๑. สังวรประธาน เพียรระวังไม่ให้บาปเกิดขึ้นในสันดาน ๒. ปหานประธาน เพียรละบาปที่เกิดขึ้นแล้ว ๓. ภาวนาประธาน เพียรให้กุศลเกิดขึ้นในสันดาน ๔. อนุรักขนาประธาน เพียรรักษากุศลที่เกิดขึ้นแล้วไม่ให้เสื่อม.
