ในบาลีแบ่งกลางคืนเป็น ๓ ยาม ยามหนึ่งมี ๔ ชั่วโมง เรียกว่า ปฐมยาม มัชฌิมยาม และปัจฉิมยาม

In Pali usage, the night is divided into 3 watches (yām), each lasting 4 hours, called the first watch (paṭhama-yāma), middle watch (majjhima-yāma), and last watch (pacchima-yāma).
