เรือหลวง มีทั้งประเภทเรือที่ขุดขึ้นจากซุงทั้งต้นกับเรือเสริมกราบ มีลักษณะพิเศษตรงศีรษะเรือต่อไม้ขึ้นไปแล้วสลักเป็นรูปสัตว์หิมพานต์ หรือรูปอมนุษย์ต่าง ๆ เช่น ครุฑ อสุรปักษา พญานาค ตอนท้ายเรือต่อไม้ทำเป็นทวนเชิดงอนไปล่ปลิวไปทางด้านหลัง เช่น เรือเอกไชยเหินหาว เรือพาลีรั้งทวีป เรือครุฑเหินระเห็จ เรืออสุรปักษี, บางทีเรียกว่า เรือกระบวนปิดทอง.
Royal barge with animal figurehead: A royal barge, either carved from a single log or with added side planks, distinguished by a specially crafted prow carved into the shape of a Himavanta mythical animal or various anthropomorphic figures, such as Garuda, Asurapaksa, or Phaya Naga. The stern is also crafted with an upward-curving ornament extending backward, as seen in barges like Ekkachai Heonhao, Phali Rang Thawi, Garuda Heonrahet, and Asurapaksee.
