ชื่อนกขนาดเล็ก วงศ์ย่อย Ploceinae ในวงศ์ Ploceidae ปากหนารูปกรวย ปลายหางมน ขนหัวและขนตัวลาย ในฤดูผสมพันธุ์ขนหัวเพศผู้เปลี่ยนเป็นสีเหลือง มี ๓ ชนิด คือ กระจาบธรรมดาหรือกระจาบอกเรียบ[ Ploceus philippinus (Linn.)] กระจาบอกลาย [ P. manyar (Horsfield)] ทำรังด้วยหญ้าหรือฟางข้าวห้อยอยู่กับกิ่งไม้หรือต้นพืชน้ำเช่นกก ปากรังอยู่ด้านล่าง และกระจาบทอง [ P. hypoxanthu s (Sparrman)] ทำรังด้วยหญ้าหรือฟางข้าวโอบหุ้มกิ่งไม้หรือใบพืชน้ำ ปากรังอยู่ทางด้านข้าง มักอยู่รวมกันเป็นหมู่ กินเมล็ดพืช.

(n.) Name of a small bird in the subfamily Ploceinae, family Ploceidae; has a thick, conical beak, rounded tail tip, and streaked head and body feathers. During breeding season, the male's head feathers turn yellow. There are three species: the common baya weaver or plain-backed weaver [Ploceus philippinus (Linn.)], the streaked weaver [P. manyar (Horsfield)], which build nests from grass or rice straw hanging from tree branches or aquatic plants such as bulrushes, with the nest entrance below; and the golden weaver [P. hypoxanthus (Sparrman)], which builds nests from grass or rice straw enveloping branches or leaves of aquatic plants, with the entrance on the side. They usually live in colonies and feed on seeds.
