ชื่อไก่ชนิด Gallus gallus (Linn.) ในวงศ์ Phasianidae ตัวผู้สีเข้มสดใสและหลากสีกว่าตัวเมีย เช่น สีเขียว ดำ แดง ตัวเมียสีน้ำตาลอมเหลือง ทั้งตัวผู้และตัวเมียขาสีเทาเข้ม โคนหางสีขาว อาศัยในป่าโปร่ง เช่น ป่าไผ่ ในประเทศไทยมี ๒ ชนิดย่อย คือ ไก่ป่าติ่งหูขาว [ G. g. gallus (Linn.)] และไก่ป่าติ่งหูแดง [ G. g. spadiceus (Bonaterre)] ไก่ชนิดนี้เป็นต้นตระกูลของไก่บ้าน.

(n.) Name of the chicken species Gallus gallus (Linn.) in the family Phasianidae. The male is brightly colored (green, black, red), the female is brownish-yellow. Both sexes have dark gray legs and white at the base of the tail. Inhabits open forests such as bamboo forests. In Thailand, there are two subspecies: White-eared Junglefowl [G. g. gallus (Linn.)] and Red-eared Junglefowl [G. g. spadiceus (Bonaterre)]. This species is the ancestor of domestic chickens.
