A large freshwater snake, Acrochordus javanicus Hornstedt (family Colubridae); large-headed with small eyes; body stout, soft, and flabby, resembling an elephant's trunk; skin rough with tuberculate scales; tail slender and tapering; inhabits freshwater bodies throughout the region; feeds on fish but typically rests coiled in damp, muddy riverbank burrows; non-venomous.
