Used of things not yet processed or transformed from their original state: unprocessed material is called วัตถุดิบ (raw material); unbleached thread is ด้ายดิบ; fabric woven from unbleached thread is ผ้าดิบ (unbleached cloth; muslin).

Figuratively: a man who has not yet been ordained as a Buddhist monk is called คนดิบ (lit. 'raw person'). (Archaic) A corpse buried rather than cremated, such as one who died a violent death, is called ผีดิบ; also, a walking-corpse ghost is called ผีดิบ (zombie). A perennially dense, lushly evergreen forest is called ดงดิบ (tropical rainforest; jungle).
