ชื่อไม้พุ่มหรือไม้ต้นขนาดเล็กหลายชนิดในสกุล Citrus วงศ์ Rutaceae ใบ ดอก และผิวผลมีต่อมนํ้ามัน กลิ่นฉุน ผลรสเปรี้ยวหรือหวาน กินได้ เช่น ส้มซ่า (C. aurantiumL.) ส้มโอ [C. maxima (Burm.)Merr.] ส้มแก้ว (C. nobilisLour.) ส้มจุก ส้มเขียวหวาน ส้มจันทบูร (C. reticulataBlanco) ส้มเกลี้ยง ส้มเช้ง [C. sinensis (L.) Name for various shrubs or small trees of the genus Citrus, family Rutaceae; leaves, flowers, and fruit peel bearing oil glands with a pungent scent; fruit sour or sweet, edible; e.g., som sa (C. aurantium L.), som o [C. maxima (Burm.) Merr.], som kaeo (C. nobilis Lour.), som chuk, som khiao wan, som chanthabun (C. reticulata Blanco), som kliang, som cheng [C. sinensis (L.) Osbeck]. When fruits of this genus carry the prefix ma (มะ), the element som (ส้ม) is normally dropped; e.g., som ma nao → ma nao (lime), som ma krut → ma krut (kaffir lime).
