กฺวัก

ชื่อนกขนาดกลางชนิด Amaurornis phoenicurus (Pennant) ในวงศ์ Rallidae ลำตัวสั้น รูปร่างป้อม ขาและนิ้วยาว หน้าผากและด้านล่างลำตัวสีขาว อาศัยอยู่ตามหนองนํ้า เดินหากินบนพื้นดินหรือบนใบพืชนํ้า เช่น บัว จอก แหน ขณะเดินหางมักกระดกขึ้นกระดกลง ในตอนเช้าหรือพลบคํ่าร้องเสียงดัง “กวัก ๆ ”.

(Noun) Name of a medium-sized bird species, Amaurornis phoenicurus (Pennant), in the family Rallidae. It has a short, stout body, long legs and toes, white forehead and underparts, lives in marshes, forages on the ground or on aquatic plants such as lotus, water lettuce, and duckweed. While walking, its tail often bobs up and down. In the morning or at dusk, it calls loudly 'kwak kwak'.
